Breadline Africa specialises in renovating disused shipping containers and recycling them for essential community purposes. In fact, we're the biggest distributor of converted containers in Southern Africa.
We buy sturdy, water-tight containers at low cost and transform them into mobile structures which we can use to feed, educate, medicate or shelter - think of a basic human need, and we'll fill it!
Our portable, versatile and secure containers are a lifeline to many struggling communities, where they provide instant and vital infrastructure. A form of recycling, the containers are put to excellent use through the creation of these fundamental sustainable projects. Make a donation to Breadline Africa, and you can help to create opportunities for communities through recycled containers for the following uses:
Because we see the deadly effects of high unemployment all the time, we decided to turn containers into classrooms that teach young people skills in trades such as plumbing and bricklaying. Each of these containers is specially fitted to teach a specific trade, and can move from one shanty settlement |
Our container vet clinics are very popular in poor communities, and are fitted out just like mini-animal hospitals, with cages for sick animals, dispensaries and an operating area. Qualified vets offer their services free of charge to the community, relieving suffering and providing much happiness. |
Very special container libraries are fitted with shelves and cupboards full of bright educational toys. These toy libraries give poor children a chance to play with and share toys and games their parents cannot provide. Teachers love bringing children to these friendly containers to play and learn essential skills. |
| Our library containers are fitted not only with doors, windows, flooring and burglar bars, but also bookshelves, books and colourful posters. Volunteer librarians can now offer pupils a safe and stimulating place to do homework, borrow materials, or just curl up with a book. |
| For communities where clinics and hospitals are a long way away, our container clinics are a wonderful, cheap and accessible alternative. Here we often add containers to one another, like building-blocks, to supply essential medical services (ante-natal care, mother and baby health, birth support and family planning, vaccinations, dental and |
Very poor communities often lack proper toilet facilities, placing children especially at risk of disease. Small children at nursery-schools often have to use buckets and potties and primitive drains; our container lavatory and ablution blocks offer modern flush toilets and a clean water supply so that little ones can practice |
Our container soup kitchens are very popular in needy communities, where they often provide support to local schools. They are often the only source of a square meal for school-going children, who would otherwise have to learn on empty tummies. They also offer a lifeline for adults who are unemployed |
| A rusty container is easily transformed into a nursery-school where children can learn in a secure environment, protected from the elements. We fit these containers with doors, windows, burglar bars, flooring and a ceiling fan for our hot summer months ? the children and their teachers are so grateful |
