Ikhayalethemba Project

On the slopes of Chapman's Peak under the shade of some tall pine trees rests a Breadline Africa container packed with children reading, learning and playing.

Located in the township of Imizamo Yethu in Hout Bay, this is the Ikhayalethemba Project. The project was started by a local church to help provide after-school educational support for children who lacked opportunities to participate in activities when they finished school in the afternoon.

Now thanks to the work of the project and the use of the container, a group of children have the opportunity to learn new skills and have fun. They arrive after school and are split into groups for activities such as storytelling/reading, crafts and life skills discussions around tea. On other days children are taught gardening and reading skills.

The project uses volunteers to help teach read and play with the children.

This is a generation that is receiving new opportunities and a new understanding of their talents, abilities and potential. Donate to Breadline Africa and support projects just like this.
