Striving to break the cycle of poverty in Africa

HOW WE DO IT

Community Development Projects We Fund

Breadline Africa is involved in a number of community development projects that aim to uplift disadvantaged communities to become self-sufficient. The projects that we support tend to fall under three different categories:

Skills Development

A well skilled/trained person has the key to a prosperous future. Unemployment is the curse of Africa and is usually found amongst those who are unskilled or, have no skills that they can sell.

In terms of skills development, we are particularly vigilant in exploring with organisations the possibility of helping them develop training programmes which lead to profitable skills. One such example is Breadline Africa's own community development project, Cans4Skills. Although it's in its early days, this community development project will hopefully make a substantial contribution over time.

Assisting Youth & Children In Poverty

As the old saying goes, 'the youth are our future'. If you neglect a child or a young person you compromise the future of the whole community. Unfortunately, this is often the situation with children in poverty.

Breadline Africa is committed to the process of building strong, healthy, well educated young people in Africa. We are always on the look-out for community development projects that want to improve their infrastructure around pre-schools. We believe that a good pre-school education is the key to a brighter future for a child.

Health & Nutrition

Clearly a malnourished child is one which will remain sickly throughout its life and be unable to make a meaningful contribution to their community.

This is an area where Breadline Africa makes a contribution through establishing community kitchens specifically aimed at the very young and also the vulnerable and elderly. We are proud of what we have achieved in this regard and, over the years have established many kitchens which make a sustained contribution to the nutritional needs of informal settlements.
