Winter Food Parcels
It was an unusually warm winter’s day in Cape Town when we drove into the heart of Kalkfontein. The Kalkfontein community is steeped in poverty and desolation and their soup kitchen is one of the projects that Breadline Africa supports. This was the day that we were going to bring some much needed joy to this impoverished community. The community leader, Moses, helped us deliver 100 winter food parcels to 100 hungry families. As we drove deep into this desolate village, the heartbeat of the hunger was tangible in the air.
The starving crowds were waiting for us. Their faces were shiny with excitement and anticipation of satisfying their hunger. Their necks craned as the food parcels were being unloaded off the truck. It gave me such great happiness to be able to contribute and help these people feed their families. I spoke to Moses and he told me that it gives him such great pleasure to be able to witness the handing out of the food parcels. It also heartens him that we cannot satisfy all of the people in the community…but one day hopefully we will be able to do just that.
