With funding and support provided by Steers, SHOUT Foundation,, Net#work BBDO, CSX Customer Services (Pty) Ltd, MAL Foundation, Abacus Space Solutions and Breadline Africa, Matsavane Primary School in Bushbuckridge recently received a brand new S.E.E.D library.
Matsavane Primary is located in Agincourt, Bushbuckridge, roughly 100km outside Hazyview in Mpumalanga. “S.E.E.D” is an acronym for Supplementary Extended Education Device, but metaphorically also refers to the “germination of knowledge”.
Children at Matsavane Primary were very excited to have celebrity musicians, Danny K and Kabelo visit their school and hand over the fully-stocked library. In her speech during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, principal, Mrs Maria Chewane, expressed gratitude for the beautiful resource that had been established and committed to building a school culture that supports literacy improvement. Room to Read is the school’s on-site literacy partner and assisted Breadline Africa’s Strategic Partnerships Manager, Diane Laugksch, to put together a special collection of multilingual, age-appropriate reading books for children. A Room to Read volunteer will provide on-site literacy support to learners during daily class library periods.
Seven other S.E.E.D libraries have been launched in five provinces under the SHOUT brand since 2014.
Core funding for the Matsavane Primary School library was raised by the Steers Restaurant Franchise that raised R2-million through the sale of the SHOUT Steers Burger.
SHOUT was established 10 years ago as a crime-fighting NGO to advocate for education as a strategy for directing children away from crime. The establishment of the SHOUT libraries aims to support this message.
Breadline Africa is thrilled to be associated with the S.E.E.D Library Project!
